He apologised on-air on BBC Radio One six years ago when he admitted to messaging Rhian Sugden, now 29 - and he is now alleged to have got back in touch with her once again.

While not referencing the rumours, he did say on his show this morning that he is feeling unwell.

"I finished work on Thursday and relaxed because I knew I had four days off," he said.

"Sat back, relaxed, chilled. First thing Friday morning, sniffles. And I woke up this morning with a massive headache."

An unidentified source had told The Sun: "Vernon regularly asked Rhian when she was going to be in London for modelling and she kept asking him if he was going to be in the Manchester area.

"They agreed to book a hotel room in January but it fell through because of work.

"Then they agreed to meet in London at the beginning of this month. But again the rendezvous failed to materialise because Vernon had family commitments at the last minute."

The insider also said: "He knows he's been playing with fire and God only knows what poor Tess will make of this.

"Vernon broke her heart six years ago and now he's back in touch with the same girl. He must be mad."

Tess has not tweeted since Good Friday, when she revealed that she had received a ring as a gift - although it's not clear whether or not this was from Vernon.

"Happy Easter…egg hunt time! Choc for the kids & a little @pandora_uk treat for me," she wrote, alongside a photo of her sporting the jewellery.

A link to the Pandora site and her role as an ambassador for the brand, however, suggests this was not a present from her husband.
