This week, we hear that the Sussex brand has signed a "megawatt" deal with TV giant Netflix to produce "impactful" TV programmes. It's a dream deal: a multi-year
contract that experts estimate could be worth $100m. In a statement describing the sort of television they want to make, the pair are true to their well-known "woke" intentions:
"Our lives... have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit... through our work with diverse communities... and causes... our focus will be on creating content that
informs but also gives hope." Right. Impeccable intentions, then. The Sussexes are said to have taken advice from Barack and Michelle Obama, who secured a Netflix deal themselves in
2018. Obama said at the time: "We hope to... promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples and help them share their stories with the entire world." Again, a noble
aspiration but then, Obama WAS president of the US for eight years. You could say that such a massive achievement after humble beginnings entitles him to profit from imparting his wisdom
from a great height.
