Netflix has given the fans what they didn't even know they needed, a Beyoncé documentary. When the trailer dropped yesterday, April 7, fans took to Twitter to express their joy. One
person tweeted: “Okay cool so I was gonna be like ‘I’ve seen this Beyoncé Homecoming thing’ but it’s not just the performance, it’s a whole ass concert film so I guess I’ll be streaming.”
WHEN CAN YOU STREAM HOMECOMING: A FILM BY BEYONCÉ? Titled Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé, the film will be available to stream from April 17, 2019. Homecoming presents an intimate look at
Beyoncé’s historic 2018 Coachella performance. Her headlining act paid homage to America's historically black colleges and universities. The film is interspersed with candid footage and
interviews detailing the preparation and powerful intent behind her vision. Homecoming traces the emotional road from creative concept to a cultural movement. Beyoncé's 2018 Coachella
performances took place on April 14 and April 21 last year. The Netflix documentary will air almost exactly one year later. Of the set, The New York Times music critic Jon Caramanica wrote:
"There's not likely to be a more meaningful, absorbing, forceful and radical performance by an American musician this year, or any year soon, than Beyoncé’s headlining set.”
Beyoncé's set became the festival’s most-watched performance to date and the most-watched live-stream performance of all time. The movie will also feature moments with her children and
husband, the rapper Jay-Z. Homecoming's trailer featured narration from renowned poet Maya Angelou, who said: “What I really wanted to do is be a representative of my race — of the
human race.” “I have a chance to show how kind we can be, how intelligent and generous we can be.” “I have a chance to teach and to love and to laugh. "And I know that when I finish
doing what I’m sent here to do, I will be called home.” The quotes from Angelou come from a 2013 interview the poet gave on the show George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight. HOMECOMING: A FILM BY
BEYONCÉ IS STREAMING ON NETFLIX FROM APRIL 17.
