Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is condition that affects the digestive system, according to the NHS. It affects between 10 and 20 per cent of the UK population, and has been linked to

oversensitive nerves in the gut. There’s no cure for IBS, but some diet changes and medicines may help to reduce symptoms. Jacqueline Baker, 58, cured her IBS symptoms by taking Alflorex

food supplements everyday, she said. Baker was diagnosed with IBS, diverticulitis and inflammatory bowel disease 10 years ago. She had an incredibly restrictive diet - mainly bread and

potatoes - as fruit and vegetables triggered her symptoms. “I suffered from a constant upset stomach, with no warning regarding bowel movements,” Baker said. “I couldn’t leave the house.

“When it occurred, I would have to run to the toilet immediately. I had to be near a toilet all the time.” Baker started taking Alflorex probiotic food supplements, to try and reduce her

symptoms. The supplement contains the B. infantis3564 probiotic, which works to alleviate signs of IBS directly. After four months of taking Alflorex everyday, Baker doesn’t have to plan her

day around the toilet anymore. “I have normal and regular bowel movements and I can eat a normal diet,” she said. “I can’t believe I can eat fruit and not get an upset stomach or stomach

cramps.” IBS is usually a life-long condition, and can have a big impact on patients’ everyday lives, the NHS said. Symptoms include stomach pain or cramps, which are usually worse after

eating. Bloating - a feeling of an uncomfortably full tummy - and constipation are also signs of the condition. Patients often report having watery diarrhoea, or unexpected urges to pass

stools.
