Martin Lewis will often share money saving tips and deals which can help Britons save money. Appearing on BBC Live 5, the Money Saving Expert spoke about the best way for Britons to protect
their money. He revealed using credit cards as a method of payment can offer the best protection for shoppers. Martin also opened up about Apple Pay and the safest methods of payments. When
making a large purchase, Martin explained using a credit card to do this could give the most financial protection. Martin said: “Thomas Cook’s collapse last month was tragic for staff and
worrisome for customers. "While debit and credit card payers without ATOL or ABTA cover had some protections, I had to tell some if you paid by cash, cheque or BACS, sadly you’re
unlikely to get any money back. "With credit and most debit and prepaid cards you get chargeback protection, meaning if you don't get what you paid for, you can ask the card
provider to give your money back." Speaking about the security of different ways to pay, he answered a question about Apple Pay. A listener asked: “Is Apple Pay, or the like, as secure
as paying on a contactless card?” Martin explained the difference between mobile payments and contactless cards and if one method is safer than the other. “Secure is an interesting question
and I wouldn’t pretend to be a fraud security expert,” he explained. “If you pay on a contactless card, it is limited to £30. If you use mobile transactions, such as Apple Pay, it is
actually uncapped and there is no limit to the size of your transaction although it can be capped by individual retailers. “Because of that you could argue, if someone were to access your
Apple Pay it is less secure as there is a bigger risk.” However, the Money Saving Expert explained the security of the payment method is more dependant on the technological security of the
shopper. He added: “This is all about technological security. As long as you’re doing everything right you should be protected. “There have been problems with contactless cards when payments
that shouldn’t happen have been taken off them, but there are problems with all types of payment systems. “There is fraudulent and fake cash that goes out. In general, I don’t have a
problem with using either Apple Pay or contactless.” Yesterday, Martin appeared on This Morning to explain the credit card accounts which have the best rewards. He listed different credit
card accounts and offers available now and shared how customers could earn hundreds of pounds.
