Julianne Hough, who presents this year’s pageant and is also a creative producer of the show, has said that the idea of the beauty pageant is evolving. Speaking to USA Today, she said:

“Something I’m very passionate about is young women and confidence, and self esteem, and really celebrating all the qualities a woman is today. “I get that cringe-worthy negative

connotation, a competition to see who is the most beautiful.” However she said the pageant may move away from swimsuits and a focus on looks in the future, and this was being discussed with
