Melania Trump, 47, is celebrating her first Christmas in the White House, and designed a decoration theme that serves as an ode to the past - ‘Time-Honoured Traditions’.  Decorations have

included a tree tribute to Gold Star military families, President Ronald Reagan’s china, President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1866 edition of ‘A Christmas Carol’, and an official White House

Christmas tree adorned with glass ornaments with the deal of each state and territory.  But one room which stands out from the rest this Christmas is the Red Room, which aptly named with its

scarlet-coloured walls, has served as a parlour and music room over the years.  As part of the First Lady’s theme the room has been covered with candy - from pots of sweets displayed on

cabinets to iced decorations on the tree.  But Melania’s decision to decorate the room in such a way could be seen as a secret message to the Obamas.  Former US First Lady, Michelle Obama,

53, was famous for her healthy eating push.  Her Let’s Move campaign restricted calories for school lunches and urged the nation to eat healthy diets.  Many of the rules put in place for

school lunches have since been rolled back by the Trump administration.  And along with the return of chocolate milk in schools comes the return of sweet treats in the White House.  But

Michelle was not entirely against the presence of sugary delights.  There is photographic evidence Barack Obama’s wife decorated cookies with children at Christmas time.  Last Christmas,

Michelle decried the Red and Green Rooms with fruits and vegetables to present the gift of good health.  There were also bee ornaments to represent the hive she built on the White House

grounds.  Last year’s Christmas decorations theme also paid tribute to US service members and veterans for their gift of service and sacrifice.  The East Garden Room featured an American

flag display formed from images of brave military members and their families.  The White House Library was a special reminder of the important gift of an education.  Ornaments with the word

‘girls’ spelled in many languages were displayed inside to recognise the millions of adolescent women around the world who are not in school.  Melania has recently revealed her and

Donald's approach to christmas gifts.
