Microsoft has teased a major update to its signature Live Tiles across Windows 10 that could change how the _constantly-refreshing_ app tiles work across the next-generation OS. Windows 10

could be about to tweak the way users interact with Live Tiles for the first time since their introduction in Windows 8, back in October 26th 2012. At the Redmond technology firm's

Build developers conference next week, Microsoft is holding a session entitled, "What's New for Tiles and Toast Notifications". "Live Tiles are evolving with two

highly-requested surprises that you won't want to miss," the brief description of the session teases. Windows 10 was supposed to ship with interactive Live Tiles, so it is possible

Microsoft is on the verge of rolling out the new functionality in an update. It's unknown how interactive Live Tiles would work in the operating system, but a concept video published

by Microsoft Research back in 2014 does offer some hints. The concept video shows users actioning email notification from within the app's Live Tile icon itself. That means users could

trawl through a short list of the latest headlines, check a range of sports scores, punch a few figures into the calculator app, delete a spam email and draft an in-line reply to a message

from a Facebook friend without ever leaving the small Live Tiles in your Start Menu. Interactive Live Tiles would represent a major shift in functionality for the Microsoft operating system.

Whatever Microsoft has planned for its Live Tiles, the functionality is most likely to appear in the next blockbuster OS update, codenamed RedStone. Major updates to the Start Menu,

Settings app and Notification Centre are currently in the works at Microsoft, according to sources.
