Instagram rolled-out a dramatic redesign to its hugely-successful iOS and Android apps last week. As part of the overhaul, the Facebook-owned photo-sharing service changed its logo.

Instagram announced the new-look symbol and app with a 54-second video appearing to show a design process for the new logo, which resulted in the purple, pink and orange-hued cartoon-style

camera image. On its website, Instagram said: "The Instagram community has evolved over the past five years from a place to share filtered photos to so much more – a global community of

interests sharing more than 80 million photos and videos every day. "Our updated look reflects how vibrant and diverse your storytelling has become." Unfortunately, the reaction

to the simple and multi-coloured symbol was extremely mixed, with some labelling it ugly. Thankfully – those who dislike the new iOS icon can now change it back to the previous, retro-look

icon with this simple trick. User Experience designer Juan Ramirez has created a simple workaround for iPhone users to reinstate the old icon. And there is no need to hack or jailbreak your

device. First, hide your Instagram app out-of-sight. Maybe you could tuck it away in the same folder as the preinstalled Stocks, Tips and Game Center apps? That way you don't have to

look at it every time you load-up your iOS Home Screen. Then, visit THIS LINK on your iPhone. At the bottom of the screen, tap the SHARE icon (which is a square with an arrow poking out) and

choose the option ADD TO HOME SCREEN from the second row of icons (you might have to swipe to the right to scroll and find it). Name the new icon Instagram and hit the ADD BUTTON in the top

right-hand corner of the display. That will drop the retro-icon on your iPhone Home Screen. Unfortunately, you'll still have to put-up with the colourful new Instagram logo when you

update the app, or get notifications. But this is a nice way to avoid the new logo every time you use your iPhone.
