However, earlier in their romance, William is said to have been adamant he wasn’t going to propose to the brunette beauty, all because of his parents’ Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s
disastrous marriage. According to 2011 book “The Making of a Royal Romance” by Katie Nicholl, because William “had witnessed his parents’ marriage crumble under pressure”, he “didn’t want to
endure a similar fate”. In 2005, engagement rumours reached new heights between Kate and William but the Prince was not even close to being ready to pop the question. Royal expert Ms
Nicholl explained: “He was aware that his father had been pressurised into marrying Diana because she was deemed a suitable bride. “He was reluctant to bow to similar pressure and vowed not
to be hurried to the alter.” At the time, William made his feeling clear to the press. In an interview when he was 22, William said: "Look, I'm only twenty-two for God's sake.
I'm too young to marry at my age. I don't want to get married until I am at least 28 or maybe 30." William even went on to hint that his younger brother, Prince Harry, would
wed before him. While Kate is said to have “longed for security” at the time of the Prince’s comments, she also insisted she was in no hurry to settle down. Five years on and both William
and Kate were ready to commit as they got engaged during a trip to Kenya. The news was announced by Clarence House and the pair went on to wed in 2011 at Westminster Abbey.
