The Queen vetoed a "yuppie" name chosen for Princess Beatrice according to an unearthed article from 1988. The name of a new royal child must go through the Queen before it is
announced, normally up to four days after birth. She doesn’t outright choose a name, but instead, her opinion heavily influences the choices made by the new parents. In the case of Princess
Beatrice, she made her opinion on Sarah Ferguson’s original chosen name brutally clear. WHAT COULD PRINCESS EUGENIE HAVE BEEN CALLED? The Duke and Duchess of York welcomed their first child
in August 1988. The couple took two weeks to formally announce what they would name their child, one week longer than the average for the Royal Family. According to the Sun, before they
arrived at Beatrice, their first choice was Annabel. READ MORE: WHO IS PRINCESS EUGENIE'S BOYFRIEND? The couple never revealed why they chose the name, but royal fans suggested the name
came from Andrew and Fergie’s favourite haunt, the Mayfair private club Annabel’s. When they eventually informed the Queen of their decision, she allegedly said the name was too “yuppie”.
The Queen then suggested Beatrice, believed to have been inspired by the name of Queen Victoria’s youngest daughters. Andrew and Sarah honoured her suggestion by naming their daughter
Beatrice Elizabeth Mary. READ MORE: EUGENIE AND BEATRICE INVITED TO HARRY'S EX WEDDING Genealogical publisher Burke’s Peerage refuted this however, saying the choice of Beatrice was to
honour the King and Queen of Spain. When the name was announced in 1988, the publishers said the King of Spain was “touched” by the honour. They said: “The reason the Duke and Duchess of
York have chosen the name Beatrice is because of their desire to honour the King and Queen of Spain, who are more responsible for making the Duchess feel at home in the Royal Family than any
other couple. “It is well known that the King of Spain (Juan Carlos I) was very touched with this honour.” Princess Beatrice could now be preparing to marry her boyfriend, Edoardo Mapelli
Mozzi. The couple is said to be getting “increasingly serious” just nine months after they started going out. Royal insiders revealed it “won’t be long” until an announcement of the
couple's engagement is released. If they did decide to get married soon, their wedding would be the third in a year for the Royal Family. Beatrice has been dating the Italian
businessman since her sister Eugenie's wedding earlier this year. He owns and operates his own high-end real estate firm Banda, which he founded in 2007. The couple met long before
Eugenie's wedding, as Mr Mozzi is apparently a friend of Beatrice's family. His stepfather was Christopher Shale, a close friend of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson before his
death in 2011.
