Royal photographer Kent Gavin recalled this incident in 2013 Amazon Prime documentary ‘Royalty Close Up: The Photography of Kent Gavin’. He explained that he had been on a tour of Africa

with her for two and a half weeks and she “never got anywhere near picking up babies like Princess Diana did”. Diana had taken the world by storm when she held a baby who had been diagnosed

with AIDs. At the time, it was not known how HIV/AIDs spread and many people feared that if they touched someone who had it, they too would be infected. Diana held many babies while doing

her charity work and the powerful photographs were splashed in newspapers around the world. However, Princess Anne never did anything like this, instead she kept more of a distance. Mr Gavin

said that after one tour of Africa with Save the Children, Anne agreed to do a one-on-one interview with his colleague at the Daily Mirror. READ MORE: PRINCESS ANNE'S EFFORT TO

'EMERGE FROM CHARLES' SHADOW' REVEALED He looked through the questions and told his colleague: “There’s something missing here. “We need to ask her why she never picked up a

baby, because that picture would go around the world as much as Diana’s pictures used to.” His colleague replied: “How am I going to do that? If I throw that question in, the interview’s

over." Mr Gavin suggested: “Put it in at the end.” “I don’t do things like that, like other members of the family do. And he knows that!"  The “other members of the family” clearly

refers to Anne’s sister-in-law Diana and the “things like that” likely refers to the rather ‘out there’ things that she did, like holding children. The tone of voice Mr Gavin used in his

recollection of the events indicated that Anne may have been scoffing at Diana’s way of doing things. Mr Gavin added that he had always found Princess Anne to be “a little difficult”.

Meanwhile, the royal photographer had a fantastic relationship with Diana. According to broadcaster Ann Robinson, even when Diana “sulked the whole way down the line”, if she saw Mr Gavin

amongst the photographers she would “flirt” with him through the lens, resulting in great pictures. Mr Gavin said he thinks Diana liked him because of his cockney accent and the fact that

they could have banter together. According to the documentary, Mr Gavin had a good relationship with most of the Royal Family, other than Anne of course.  This is because he was polite and

mild-mannered and never shouted at them or demanded anything. They also trusted him to take great photographs, because he had a wealth of experience in general news photography.
