The massive silk knickers date from around 1880 to 1890, and have an impressive 42 inch waist measurement. The frilly garment was made exclusively for Queen Victoria, and bears a monogrammed


"VR" stitched at the top.  The royal bloomers are up for auction from Charles Ross Auctioneers, in Woburn, Bedfordshire, on 19 March. Their last owner was a woman who bought them


at a Christie's auction in 1981 for just £10, as a novelty Christmas present for her late father. Peter Mason, auctioneer and valuer at Charles Ross, said: "We're expecting


quite a lot of general interest, as well as royal collectors.  "There's a good chance they might go to an overseas bidder - possibly Australia - as we get a lot of internet

only been two or three in the last 10 years. "They produced the knickers in quite a large quantity, so Queen Victoria probably only wore them once. "They are a bit stained and


brown around the edges - but not through use, because of their age." Mr Mason said similar underwear had sold in the past for "hundreds of pounds", and a sale in Derby in 2013


saw a pair fetch a whopping £10,500.
