Former cabinet minister Priti Patel has launched a blistering criticism of the Government's approach to Brexit negotiations. In a video supporting the #StandUp4Brexit campaign, Mrs

Patel vowed to fight back against the Chequers proposal, which she claims would defy the Brexit vote. This comes as fellow Brexiteer Boris Johnson joined the attack on the Chequers plan,

calling Prime Minister Theresa May's plan "a suicide vest" wrapped around the  British constitution. He accused Mrs May of "handing the detonator" to the EU's

chief negogiator Michel Barnier and his colleagues in Brussels. In recent weeks, there has been increasingly vocal criticism of the Chequers plan, from both Remainers and Leavers. This has

been seen in a concerted effort from the#StandUp4Brexit campaign group to 'Chuck Chequers'. The group argue that the Chequers plan would keep the UK tied to Brussels and make it

difficult for Britain to strike overseas trade deals. Mrs Patel joined this campaign, telling viewers on social media: "There are many including Members of Parliament, people across the

media, and in big business, who are fearful of Britain enjoying an independent future to frighten people. "They seek to defy the democratic decision voters have made.

"Unfortunately those who want to stop Brexit have succeeded in influencing the Government, and as a result, the Chequers proposals would shackle us to the EU forever "We would be

bound by EU rules and lose our freedom to govern ourselves and we would be unable to open up new trade deals and parternships with the rest of the world. "This is why the Government

should Chuck Chequers - and instead seek a Global Trade Agreement which would facilitate continuing trade with the EU." She also called the Brexit decision in 2016 "an act of great

political courage against the prophets of doom".  The Brexit campaigner praised those who voted Leave for "believing in Britain being a self confident outward looking country,

free to set it’s own laws and be in control of it’s own future". In opposition to these Brexiteers, the current Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt today called for people to rally behind Mrs

May, backing her to hold the line "in the face of intense pressure". British Home Secretary Sajid Javid added that the Chequers plan was the only one on the table with the

European Union, suggesting that Theresa May is not planning to succumb to pressure to change tack over Brexit.
