The auction at Christie's saw 12,000 pre-sale visitors and bids came in from 27 countries. Money raised will go towards the Wham! star's charity work. A spokesman for George
Michael's trustees said: "Philanthropic work was hugely important for George during his lifetime. "It was his wish that this work would continue after his passing. We are
delighted with the outcome of the sale." Pieces for sale included work by renowned contemporary British artists Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin. Among them was a pink and blue neon work
from 2007, by Emin, called George Loves Kenny, a nod to his relationship with ex-partner Kenny Goss. Jussi Pylkkanen, global president of Christie's and auctioneer for the night, said:
"The sale was another great moment for the London art market and particularly for so many young British artists."
