In his telling of the affair, he wrote that his parents had told him nothing of the scandal and that he learned of it from another boy at school. In his memoir, as reported by The Telegraph,

David wrote of his mother once telling him of the affair later: “He [Profumo] got himself into such a frightful mess because he was shocked beyond endurance by the thought of telling me.
