A man has found evidence of the birth in a park and police suspect the infant is dead. The police are working on the basis that the baby, thought to be a girl, did not survive and the mother

did not seek help. Detective Superintendent Ruth Price said: "The mother is more than likely to be young and afraid of what her parents may think of a pregnancy. "Someone who

knows her may have noticed a change in her behaviour leading up to the day it happened or afterwards.  "She may have avoided activities where her pregnancy would have been visible, for

example PE at school, her relationships with friends may have changed and generally she would have been under enormous pressure. "If this girl was attending school, teachers may have

picked up on any of these behaviours. I would like to appeal to them as a group to think about any of their pupils who may fit into some or all of the categories I've mentioned."

A dog walker discovered the body while walking his dog around Parc Seymour in Penhow, South Wales.  Gwent Police have pursued other lines of enquiry, such as forensic analysis of the birth

material and speaking to women in the area who gave birth at a similar time. However, none of these lines have been successful so far.  Police have appealed for anyone with information about

the mum or the newborn tot to get in touch.
