Crufts ended in chaos after animal rights protesters leapt over barriers and invaded the arena as the winner was announced on live television. A member of the audience captured the moment
the two protesters unfurled banners, reading: “Crufts: Canine Eugenics.” The pair were wrestled to the ground by security before being escorted from the venue. The video shows the two Vegan
Strike Group protesters gatecrash the winner’s parade to demonstrate against “the suffering of dogs bred by humans to have grossly exaggerated features”. Yvette Short, the owner and handler
of Best in Show winner Tease, whisked her pooch away as the pair invaded the arena. Crufts announced and the NEC Group will now review their security procedures as a “mater of urgency”
following the on-air drama. Peta, the campaign group who organised the protest, identified Joel Cessio, 32, from Nice, France and Lolita Vernot Sanataria, 25, from Paris, as the pair to
storm the Crufts arena. They were sat amongst the Chelsea Pensioners in the 9,000-strong audience watching the finale of the event at the NEC Arena. Peta director Elisa Allen said: “Crufts
glorifies pedigree festishists’ twisted pursuit of the ‘perfect’ dog. CRUFTS: BALDING PRAISES WINNER FOR PROTECTING DOG DURING PROTEST “There’s nothing natural about breeding dogs with
extreme and debilitating physical traits and Peta urges everyone to stay away from this cruel beauty pageant.” However, a Crufts spokesman hit back at the protesters for putting “the safety
of both dogs at risk in a hugely irresponsible way”. The Crufts spokesman said: “It appears that protesters from Peta gained unauthorised access to the ring in the main arena at Crufts, and
in doing so scared the dogs and put the safety of both dogs at risk in a hugely irresponsible way. “Our main priority at the moment is the wellbeing of the dogs that were in the ring, who
are looked after by their owners and show officials. WHIPPET COLLOONEY TARTAN TEASE CROWNED WINNER OF CRUFTS 2018 “The NEC Group have extensive security procedures in place at Crufts and we,
along with the NEC Group, will be receiving what happened as a matter of urgency.” The protest was booed by the audience and as the two campaigners were ejected from the venue, the crowd in
Birmingham cheered. The Best in Show award is the culmination of Crufts, a four-day event attracting almost 21,000 competitors. The runner-up to Tease in Best of Show was a pointer named
