“Bearing in mind we also had the economic downturn we inherited from Labour, we also had the pressure of delivering safe and secure Olympic and Paralympic games. “We see Sadiq Khan's
very traditional habit of blaming everybody else when things get difficult, but never taking responsibility for his own actions.” It comes after Sadiq Khan faced mounting pressure over the
recent killings in London which has taken the death toll for knife and gun crime to over 50. Speaking on Thursday the Mayor spoke out about the surging street violence and admitted he had
yet to meet face to face with the families of victims of gang crime. He told LBC: “I haven’t spoken to the bereaved families - but I’ve got a deputy mayor and police commissioner. The point
is that we are a team. “I’m here talking to you trying to explain some of the things we are doing. We've got to brief families, we've got two teenagers who lost their lives just in
the last week. “As a father of two teenagers its personal to me and to many of us who understand this problem. I have full confidence in the Met Office but I’m not going to apologise for
making a point which is in the context of the cuts of the past few years. “I’m not going to apologise doing one of the jobs of the mayor which is to be the champion of our city and standing
up for the city when we’re facing massive massive cuts.” On Thursday Mr Khan tweeted: “I‘m angered and heartbroken by the recent violent deaths on our streets. Met police patrols have
already been increased and extra stop-and-search powers are in place.” In a statement, the Mayor added: “Let me be clear - there is no reason to carry a knife. To anyone who does - they will
be caught, and they will feel the full force of the law. 35 people have been charged for murder offences occurring during 2018 so far. “We need communities, families, friends and neighbours
to give us the information we need to bring these criminals to justice.”
