Whisper it quietly, but summer may nearly be here. The mercury is set to rocket over the weekend, with large swathes of the country seeing temperatures north of 20C. Jim Dale, a leading

weather expert, for British Weather Services said he expects conditions to be "very pleasant" this week and that Brits should expect that to "continue for most parts on

Friday, Saturday [and] Sunday". He added that "somewhere might get 25C", most likely the south-east or East Anglia. According to the Met Office, Britain will swelter from May

9 with temperatures in the high-teens and higher than 20C in the south-east. This period of prolonged heat should last until at least May 12, meaning Brits can confidently make plans to bask

outdoors with friends and family, with limited concern for inclement weather. The hottest spots unsurprisingly are to be found in the south of England, with the home counties set to be

blasted by a maximum temperature of 23C on May 11. A smattering of rain may affect small pockets of the country, but by and large it should remain dry and bright for most. However, it will

only be a degree or two cooler in northern England with Scotland also possibly set for 20C plus. According to Met Office radars, the weekend is not only expected to be hot, but for the vast

majority of the country, it should be dry as well. MOSTLY DRY WITH SUNNY SPELLS AND SCATTERED SHOWERS. TODAY: A cloudy start with mist and fog clearing through the morning and sunny spells

developing for most, away from parts of Scotland and northern England. Dry for many although a few showers will develop. Feeling warm in the sunshine. TONIGHT: Evening showers soon fading

leaving a generally dry night with clear spells. Low cloud spreading in from the North Sea and some mist and fog in the south and west. WEDNESDAY: Mist, fog and coastal low cloud soon

clearing to leave another dry day with sunny spells. Outbreaks of rain and stronger winds reaching the far north and northwest later. OUTLOOK FOR THURSDAY TO SATURDAY: Largely fine and dry

with variable amounts of cloud and some sunshine. Outbreaks of rain affecting the north and northwest at times. Feeling increasingly warm.
