North Island, in particular, was impacted, with one resident in Napier reporting the quake was felt for about 30 seconds, with "a bit of a cracking sound". In rural Gisborne,
another witness said the quake was a "gentle 15 second tremor". One person wrote on the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC): "Laid in bed in our campervan and
felt the van rock." There are so far no reports of damage or injuries.
