Season three of The Last Kingdom is the longest to date with a grand total of 10 instalments. For the first time ever, fans of the show in the UK could binge-watch the entire run on Netflix
rather than having to wait for weekly instalments to be broadcast. This year The Last Kingdom proved to be even more sprawling and epic than ever before with brand new antagonists stirring
up trouble for Uhtred of Bebbanburg (played by Alexander Dreymon). _WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM THE LAST KINGDOM SEASON 3_ Along with Sigurd/Bloodhair (Ola Rapace), who
sought to kill King Alfred (David Dawson) and rule over Wessex and Mercia, there was also the seer called Skade (Thea Sofie Loch Naess). The soothsayer, who was branded a witch by her
enemies, certainly proved to be a memorable addition to the show this year. Within her opening scenes, she was established and perhaps the most brutal antagonist audiences have ever come
across in The Last Kingdom after she blinded and killed men for daring to gaze upon her. Skade met one man’s plea for mercy with disdain and made quick work of him as she murdered him
violently. HOW MANY EPISODES ARE IN THE LAST KINGDOM SEASON 3? Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Loch Naess said about her most shocking scene as Skade: “Honestly, just opening the
scripts. I was like, ‘Okay, I’ve got to play her.’ “Then I saw the scene where she had a vision in the first scene. She has a vision and then she kills some men. I remember thinking, ‘I’m
not going to be able to do this!’” The Norwegian actress continued: “I was in my living room, trying to pull out a dagger and I thought, ‘I can’t do this! Acting evil. I’m not tough enough.
It’s going to look stupid.’ “But even that, the first scene in the script, I was like, ‘Oh my god. Are you going to be able to do this, Thea?’” HOW TO WATCH THE LAST KINGDOM SEASON 3 ONLINE
Her first scene on set saw Skade burning Christian monks in a church, which Loch Naess described as a “challenge”. She explained: “I was just standing there thinking, ‘Who am I? Why am I
doing this? Setting someone on fire? Tearing out someone’s heart? “So that was like this ride into the character and then all the scenes where she’s screaming and screaming and screaming.”
Loch Naess added: “To me, almost every scene was a challenge because it was so out of my comfort zone.” IS THE LAST KINGDOM BASED ON HISTORICAL FACT? Despite having to play a character so
different from herself and initially being daunted by Skade’s fury, Loch Naess said that she managed to find the anger to play the character. She said that Skade’s rage came from being a
beautiful woman, which she described as the character’s “biggest curse” and led her to be objectified by men in the patriarchal Viking society. So Skade’s anger came from not being taken
seriously as a woman, something which resonated with Loch Naess and who found modern-day parallels. Throughout season three Skade is constantly desired and objectified by men, who seek to
possess her. However, she is the one who chooses whom she shares her bed and powers with. But in the end, men and women alike are afraid of her and she has power with even Alfred seeking her
out for a prophecy. _THE LAST KINGDOM SEASON 3 IS AVAILABLE TO WATCH ON NETFLIX NOW_
