Julien Baptiste (played by Tchéky Karyo) is finally back on screens following his brain surgery. He is about to solve another mystery of a missing girl along with worried uncle Edward
Stratton (Tom Hollander). And it seemed Tom was especially keen to take part in the thrilling BBC drama. However, he was previously turned down for a role in Baptiste’s origin drama, The
Missing. Usually a comedic actor, Tom was thrilled to be offered a part in Baptiste which is so dark in comparison. Speaking to press including Express.co.uk at the launch of Baptiste, the
actor admitted: “I had never been offered a part like that and Jack and Harry are very brilliant writers and it was very… “No one’s asked me to do a part that was completely devoid of
humour and I liked the running and chasing and fighting as well. “Tchéky is brilliant and I had noticed that,” Tom said. He continued: “I had auditioned for The Missing but didn’t get it… “I
had an axe to grind over that and I had the chance to [change that].” Tom joined Tchéky in Amsterdam, where they filmed scenes for their thrilling series. However, according to the lead
male, it was rather difficult filming in such a busy city. It’s all down to the sheer amount of bicycles in the city, which Tchéky has called “a joke”. He added at the press event: “The
people from the team kept telling me every day to be careful with the bicycles and I wondered why the bicycle was so dangerous. “But when you walk in Amsterdam, you realise to belong to the
place you have to own a bicycle and stop walking.” Furthermore, it seems the team fared a little better in Antwerp, where they also shot some of the scenes. Tchéky added: “In the cities, we
were in Antwerp where you’re surrounded by water. “You realise how quiet you become and I felt really relaxed being in those places.” The creators also spilled the beans on why they chose to
make Baptiste instead of The Missing’s third season. _BAPTISTE LAUNCHES TONIGHT ON BBC ONE AT 9PM. _
