Emmerdale character Rhona (played by Zoe Henry) revealed he's currently suffering with an illness following a horrific tractor accident on the ITV soap. Henry's character told
Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick) she’s had something wrong with her after scans were taken following the accident on the soap. The illness turned out to be Fibroids. Here’s what Rhona’s illness
means for the fate of the character and what Fibroids are. WHAT IS RHONA'S ILLNESS ON EMMERDALE? Emmerdale character Rhona has had an eventful storyline on the ITV soap recently. Rhona
was involved in a bone-crushing tractor accident earlier this month after a huge mistake by Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano). While in hospital, Rhona undergoes a number of scans and tell pal
Vanessa and boyfriend Pete (Anthony Quinlan) the results show she has Fibroids. The illness is non-life-threatening but the character is advised by doctors on the soap to undergo a
hysterectomy. EMMERDALE: THE DINGLE FAMILY TREE REVEALED Fibroids are described as “non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the womb (uterus)” on the NHS’ official website. The NHS
explains: “The growths are made up of muscle and fibrous tissue, and vary in size. “They're sometimes known as uterine myomas or leiomyomas. “Many women are unaware they have fibroids
because they don't have any symptoms.” The illness is thought to affect one in three women – although an exact cause is yet to be discovered. EMMERDALE: THE SUGDEN FAMILY TREE REVEALED
The NHS explains: “The exact cause of fibroids is unknown, but they have been linked to the hormone oestrogen. “Oestrogen is the female reproductive hormone produced by the ovaries (the
female reproductive organs). “Fibroids usually develop during a woman's reproductive years (from around the age of 16 to 50) when oestrogen levels are at their highest.” Rhona tells
boyfriend Pete she’s 43 so falls within the age bracket. Henry's character's illness isn't the only major storyline unfolding on-screen at the moment, with Maya (Louisa Clein)
and Jacob's (Joe-Warren Plant) grooming plot intensifying, despite their age gap. There's also the possibility of Amy Walsh (Chelsea Halfpenny) returning, although some fans are
still confused as to why Amy left in the first place. EMMERDALE: THE BARTON FAMILY TREE REVEALED While Rhona is recommended to undergo a hysterectomy on Emmerdale, it’s not the only way to
treat or avoid Fibroids. Fibroids don’t necessarily need to be treated right away as they’ll often shrink and disappear without it, according to the NHS. There are medications available to
help speed up the process, however. What Rhona’s diagnosis means for the future of her character is yet to be seen but it appears to have drastic consequences for her relationship with Pete.
Rhona tells Pete at the end of tonight’s episode she doesn’t “think they can be together” following the news. Whether the pair will be forced to split in upcoming weeks will be played out
on the ITV soap. _EMMERDALE CONTINUES WEEKNIGHTS AT 7PM ON ITV (SKY CHANNEL 103)._
