Caller Simon rang into Jeremy Vine on 5 and explained how his mother was living in a care home in August and how he was able to visit her as restrictions had been lifted. Sadly, Simon
revealed she had suffered a recent mild heart attack and was unable to visit her in the hospital because of the coronavirus restrictions before she eventually died. The caller could not hold
back his emotion and began crying on the show before questioning why should the public follow the rules if those in power have been found flouting them. Presenter Claudia-Liza, who was
sitting in on Jeremy Vine's show, asked the public for their opinions on new restrictions potentially being introduced over Christmas which saw Simon ring in. The caller told the
programme: "My mother was in a care home in August and I used to go see her every evening, the week before last I developed a really bad cold so I didn't see her that week to pass
it on to her. "A week ago Sunday, she had a mild heart attack so she was taken to hospital, she was ok but I couldn't see her... sorry it is still very raw... "Then on Tuesday
evening, I got a phone call saying she passed away... I couldn't say goodbye to her... "So why should people like me follow the rules if people who are supposed to be setting the
example are deliberating flouting them." Ms Liza then asked Simon how he felt after the Guardian published images of Boris Johnson and his staff sitting in the Downing Street garden in
May 2020. Household mixing was limited to two people at the time and they could only meet outdoors and with a 2-metre social distance put in place. No10 insists the photo shows a work
meeting, which would get around the rules, despite cheese and wine being on display. Simon said: "That is absolutely dreadful, I follow the rules and if I had seen that photo last week
I would have been at the hospital... "And I voted for Boris last time, never again, I won't vote for the Tories ever again." A Downing Street spokesperson said: “In the summer
months Downing Street staff regularly use the garden for some meetings. On 15 May 2020 the prime minister held a series of meetings throughout the afternoon, including briefly with the then
health and care secretary and his team in the garden following a press conference. “The prime minister went to his residence shortly after 7pm. A small number of staff required to be in
work remained in the Downing Street garden for part of the afternoon and evening.” The image also comes after the Mirror published photos of Tory staff, including London mayoral candidate
Shaun Bailey, at a Christmas party last year as tier 2 restrictions were in place. READ MORE: Covid horror as ANOTHER new variant discovered in France [REVEAL] First Briton to die with
