The RADA-trained star shaved off his hair for the second series as part of Tommy’s transformation during his time in jail. Compared to the initial run, this time Tommy and Catherine will
share very little screen time together - in fact James revealed that he only filmed with co-star Sarah Lancashire for an hour. James revealed that Tommy is going to form a bond with a woman,
who is fascinated by his case and is going to be visiting him in prison. “This woman is someone who has reached out to Tommy and what is beautiful about Sally’s writing is that you’re
never quite sure how much of it is purely manipulation and grooming and how much of it isn’t,” James said. He went on to say: “It has been a wonderful relationship to explore for me. I have
watched a few documentaries about these relationships and I am always surprised at how intense and deeply in love these people seem to be. “You only have half an hour with that person every
two weeks so every single second is incredibly valuable.” The first series of the BBC series was broadcast in 2014 and had an average audience of eight million viewers watching each
episode. Series two will pick up 18 months after the last episode in which Sarah’s dogged police officer Catherine Cawood managed to apprehend Tommy and finally put him behind bars
following a brutal and bloody showdown. The gritty drama is set to be returning to our screens next month with six new instalments for fans to get their teeth stuck into. The new run will
see the return of Catherine as she takes on a new case after a body is discovered, however Tommy is still on the periphery serving life for the murder of three people. Joining the cast this
year will be Mr Selfridge actress Katherine Kelly, Coronation Street's Julie Hesmondhalgh, Downton Abbey's Kevin Doyle, Harry Potter actor Matthew Lewis, Shirley Henderson and
Amelia Bullmore. _HAPPY VALLEY SERIES 2 WILL START ON BBC1 ON FEBRUARY 9 AT 9PM._
