The drama was created by Steven Knight, with Tom and Chips Hardy, and a source has now claimed that Mad Max: Fury Road star Tom, 39, was left with a major shortfall after income was unable
to cover the cost of producing the high-budget drama. An insider told The Sun: "No matter who you are or how much money you're worth, £2 million is a lot of money to simply throw
away." Although the show has made an income of £8.4 million, the source claimed that Tom will hope to cover the losses from the £10.4 million it cost to make through DVD and digital
sales and syndication rights around the world. The gritty BBC drama has struggled with ratings on TV, with just 3.9 million tuning in for the series' third episode on Saturday, but has
soared in online viewing figures, making it one of iPlayer's most popular programmes. The Executive Producer of Taboo told express.co.uk: "There has been no £2million lost on the
Taboo production. "The cost of the production has been fully covered. These figures are taken from Interim accounts filed last year and are out of context and therefore misleading.
"Taboo Productions always had sufficient financing secured to complete and deliver the series." Steven Knight (who also created dark gangster drama Peaky Blinders which Tom starred
in) recently revealed plans for a second and third season of the show. Since the series started, Tom has become the new frontrunner to replace Daniel Craig as the new James Bond. He leads
the way with bookies odds at 3/1, alongside Poldark actor Aidan Turner and Happy Valley's James Norton. Previous favourites Tom Hiddleston and Idris Elba are not far behind with odds of
8/1. _TABOO CONTINUES SATURDAY AT 9.15PM ON BBC ONE._
