After destroying Simon (played by Bertie Carvel) by taking his home, wife and child away from him, Gemma (Suranne Jones) made sure her ex-husband fulfilled his promise to “only leave this

town in a coffin”. The dramatic instalment closed with Simon storming off to find their son Tom (Tom Taylor), before Gemma appeared to steer her car straight into the love rat.  Viewers

couldn’t believe their eyes as the BBC drama took a very unexpected turn.  “Didn’t need my fingernails anyway,” cried one audience member, as another teased: “I don't condone attempted

murder…unless you're about to run over Simon Foster. #DoctorFoster.” A third gasped: “Oh my god!” which was followed by: “Well there you go. Just when you thought it was done and dusted

she ramps it up. #DoctorFoster.” However, while fans were left stunned by the gripping cliffhanger, others demanded to know: “What did Simon tell Tom?” Before what may have been his

untimely demise, Simon warned Gemma that she’s “already lost” their son, after he told Tom a secret.  Earlier in the episode, Tom told his mother: “You know you keep asking me what dad said?

Well, it doesn’t matter now so can we leave it?” Actor Bertie Carve, who stars as Simon, hinted his character might not survive season two. "I'd have my balls cut off very quickly

by the producers if I told you anything," he teased to Radio Times. "It's frustrating not to be able to talk about the ending. "But, I think that what Mike does

brilliantly is to play with the audience's expectations, and have a dialogue with that. If that doesn't tease too much." _DOCTOR FOSTER CONTINUES NEXT TUESDAY AT 9PM ON BBC
