Season three's sixth episode, called A. Malcolm, was the most highly-anticipated instalment in Diana Gabaldon's series as it finally reunited Claire (played by Caitriona) and Jamie
Fraser (Sam Heughan) after an agonising 20 years apart. But while their love scenes were powerful, they weren't exactly what fans expected as the pair awkwardly bumped heads and
limbs. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the process, Irish actress Caitriona, 38, confessed: "I think he probably hit me at one point, if I remember." The star was keen to
assure that she thought it was important to show the time gap between the pair however, as they struggled to rediscover their connection. "I loved that Matt Roberts wanted it to be like
that," she said. "In this business, a lot of us go for long periods of time without seeing our significant other. There is always that time when you are not in sync with each
other. "It's almost like we’re teenagers again. I thought it was a really sweet way to reintroduce this couple. Neither of them have been intimate in quite a few years. It’s that
shyness but also that clumsiness that comes with not being fully confident and open. "It was really fun to shoot," she added enthusiastically. Sam, 37, also revealed that the
fireside dinner scene before the couple became intimate was put in as a pointed throwback to their wedding night in season one.
