_WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM EPISODE 1 OF KIRI._ WHAT HAPPENED IN EPISODE 1 OF KIRI? Episode one of Kiri on Channel 4 got off to a devastating and dramatic start last week
with Sarah Lancashire delivering a stunning performance as social worker Miriam Grayson. The four-part mini series, which has been written by Jack Thorne, began with Miriam going about her
day, visiting some of the troubled young people in her care and generally being a genuines, hardworking person. She is cheerful and dedicated to her job. This commitment can be seen by
Miriam’s insistence that a young black girl in her care, Kiri (played by Felicia Mukasa) has an unsupervised visit with her biological grandparents before she is about to be adopted by a
white middle class family. Miriam wants Kiri to connect with her grandparents before the adoption. “I’m black. I need to find out how black people live. I get it,” Kiri says to Miriam
before the visit. IS KIRI BASED ON A TRUE STORY? The nine-year-old goes missing during the visit having been abducted by her birth father (Papa Essiedu) and her body is later found. The
blame is firmly placed on Miriam who is held accountable for arranging the supervised visit and even accused of pressuring Kiri’s foster parents into agreeing to it. “I’ll never forgive
myself and I’ll never forgive you!” Foster mother Alice Warner (Lia Williams) screams at Miriam. Miriam, however, stands by her decision and tells reporters who hound her following the
murder: “I did the right thing by a little girl who deserved to know where she came from.” WHERE WAS KIRI FILMED? WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN EPISODE 2 OF KIRI? The second episode will see Kiri’s
grandfather Tobi Akindele (Lucian Msamati) search for his son, who is the prime suspect in Kiri’s murder case. According to Channel 4, he will have to “face up to some uncomfortable truths
about his relationship with him”. The witch-hunt that surrounds Miriam is set to intensify as she is put under pressure to admit she is to blame for what happened to Kiri. Meanwhile, Kiri’s
foster family will also find themselves under the media spotlight as they experience very public grief. Speaking about the show, Lia Williams said: “We are thrown into an extreme situation
through a tragedy at the beginning of the story, these characters are sort of pushed to an extreme of themselves.” The Crown actress added: “It’s probably one of the finest-written TV roles
I’ve ever played, in the sense that it’s properly character driven.” WHO IS IN THE CAST OF KIRI? WHEN IS EPISODE 2 OF KIRI AIRED? Episode two of the harrowing drama is on tonight
