Max Verstappen has called out Lewis Hamilton in a remark he claims British F1 fans will “hate him” for. Verstappen claimed it was vital to have “extra capacity” to think about things

in-depth behind the wheel. The Dutchman added that only a “few drivers” have the skill with Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso making the cut. However, he snubbed Lewis Hamilton, suggesting it

was not a skill the seven-time champion possessed. Verstappen told The Times: “For me, definitely Fernando [Alonso] — I can feel that, from the way he operates in the car, picking up on

little things, showing this extra capacity — still driving at the limit but thinking about other stuff as well. You are talking to the engineer but I am also hearing a pit stop by a Ferrari

car. “I asked, ‘Did they box? I heard that on the radio.’ But if you are fully focused on your driving, you probably won’t pick it up because you are fully focused on his voice.” When pushed

on why Hamilton didn’t make the cut, Verstappen claimed Alonso’s skill “stood out more” than the Mercedes driver. He added: “No, because Fernando stands out more with that. People will

probably start hating me for [saying] that, but just that’s how I see it.” Hamilton and Verstappen were embroiled in a tense rivalry in 2021 as the pair battled for the world title. The Red

Bull star came out on top in a controversial ending to secure his first world title before dominating last year. He has previously admitted the duo “sometimes hated each other” as they went

blow to blow for the Drivers' Championship. Verstappen’s latest comments come just weeks after Hamilton compared his F1 skills to an artist. Although he didn’t touch on the same area as

Verstappen, Hamilton admitted he feels he was born to race in F1. He told ESPN: “It’s hard for anybody that’s good at something to explain. There’s the innate ability, naturally. I was

definitely born with the ability. “I think it’s how you perceive things, your depth perception. It’s how your mind’s able to compute. I’m not great in a classroom. I can’t sit in a meeting.

I’m not great at maths. I can’t solve the greatest equations. "I can’t draw amazing art. But once I’m in a car, that’s like my paintbrush. It just flows out of me. It was meant to be,

it’s what I was supposed to do.”
