The Liverpool defender, 20, has been called up to the senior squad for the first time following an impressive start to the season. He revealed he learnt of his call-up on Twitter before
putting his rise down to Klopp. Gomez could win his first cap in either of the upcoming friendlies against Germany and Brazil at Wembley. Gomez said: "I am grateful for the opportunity
and looking forward to working under Gareth Southgate. "Obviously I've worked under him before previously and I know how good a manager he is and I am just looking forward to
learning and playing under him, and just getting whatever football I can. "But without the opportunities he (Klopp) has given me I wouldn’t be here. "Now I am here I am just
looking forward to playing under Gareth and learning under him and possibly in a new position. "I mean, for me personally, I just have to be confident with myself. I think it's a
balance of knowing my ability but also trying to learn. "I have to look ahead towards the future and I still understand that I am a young player and I've got a lot to learn."
Gomez now has his sights set on next summer's World Cup in Russia and is keen to seize his big chance. He added: "I am looking to do that and still try to get games but at the same
time impose myself and show my quality. "Obviously I am aware that it is a big opportunity personally to try and show that I am capable of playing at this level and obviously I aim to
do that, but at the same time I've just got to try and enjoy it, and try and take the pressure off myself. "But I am aware that it is a big opportunity for me, especially leading
into next year's World Cup and obviously I have to strive to try and be involved in that."
