WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO RAFAEL NADAL? Nadal, 31, has a right knee injury that has been bothering him for a while. Most recently, he played through the pain barrier at the Shanghai Masters. In
the final he wore strapping on it as he lost to Roger Federer. Following that, he pulled out of the Swiss Indoors event in Basel. It was a sound decision from the Spaniard - given there were
less ranking points available there than in Paris. While Basel is an ATP 500 event, Paris is an ATP 1000 Masters event. He got through the first two games in France on a slow court that
puts real strain on the body. However, he then withdrew after receiving doctor's advice. WHAT HAS RAFAEL NADAL SAID ABOUT HIS INJURY? Nadal called a press conference yesterday, hours
before his quarter-final match. In it, he said: "I have to pull out. Of course it's a very hard decision for me "Pulling out of any event is tough but especially from here in
Paris, as I said a lot of times, it's the most important city in my career without a doubt. "It's a tough situation but I have the calm that I came here, tried me best, did
everything I could to try to play this event. "I did one treatment last night to try to play today but it's impossible to go on court like yesterday. "I had to pull out and
that's it. Sorry for the fans, sorry for the tournament. "Guy Forget told me thanks for trying and I just can try thanks for all the hospitality for making it feel like home.
"It's a sad day for me and for the tournament too but especially to me. I came here to try my best and to go as far as I can." WILL RAFAEL NADAL BE FIT FOR THE ATP WORLD TOUR
FINALS? He was asked just that but he refused to confirm either way. Nadal said: "I understand the question but I can't talk about London now. "I am sad to pull out from here,
it's a tournament that I know a lot of people at - it's the same people as Roland Garros. "I feel like home here and for the relationship I have with the French Federation
with everybody. "I'm going to do my treatment, try my best to play in London but I can't talk about that now. It's a tough day enough as it is."
