Conor McGregor and Nurmagomedov arguably have the most-heated rivalry in the history of mixed martial arts. And their disdain for one another spilled over before and after their UFC 229 grudge match, which Nurmagomedov won via fourth round submission. Both men have continued to trade verbal jabs with one another, with McGregor controversially mocking the lightweight champion’s wife on social media earlier this month. The UFC brass stepped in and warned both men over their actions, which led to McGregor apologising for his actions. The bad blood between the pair and their respective teams doesn’t seem like dissipating any time soon, especially when you consider McGregor’s pre-fight trash talk. “Every single one of them can get it,” he told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani. “And this is never going to be over. “It’s not over after this fight. Trust me on that!” White, however, believes the pair could eventually learn to respect each other as fighters. During an appearance on CNN, he said: “I don’t think these guys are going to be friends and hanging out and going to dinner stuff. “But listen. When you get in there with another guy and you fight it out for what would end up being seven, eight, nine, ten rounds between these two, there ends up becoming a sort of mutual respect. “And I think that we will get to a point someday where these two have a mutual respect for each other. “They don’t have to like each other.” McGregor, 30, hasn’t fought since his loss to Nurmagomedov last October and recently cast doubt over his future by announcing his retirement on Twitter. The Irishman has appeared to have pulled a U-turn on his second retirement but has yet to fully confirm he is still an active fighter. Nurmagomedov, meanwhile, is serving a nine-month suspension for his part in the brawl which followed his career-defining victory over McGregor. The Russian’s next fight will be a lightweight title unification bout against interim 155lbs champion Dustin Poirier, which is expected to take place in Abu Dhabi this Septembe
