IS TENERIFE CLASSED AS SPAIN? Tenerife, which is part of the Canary Islands, is an autonomous region of Spain. These islands lie just off the coast of northwest Africa, about 100km west of
Morocco. Tenerife is still controlled from the Spanish central government but has its own political management. However, the FCO excludes the Balearic and Canary Islands from the removal.
The advisory reads: "From July 26, the FCO advises against all non-essential travel to mainland Spain based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks. "Only the Canary Islands
(Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and La Graciosa) and Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera) are exempt from the FCO
advice against all non-essential international travel." Tenerife first opened its borders under Spanish Government orders on June 21, along with mainland Spain. The island was then
included as part of Spain when the UK announced its air bridges list earlier this month. Express.co.uk will update this story when more information is made available.
