Cruises have been off-limits to Britons since earlier this year thanks to the crippling impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Currently, the Foreign Office (FCO) is advising against cruise
ship travel. But Italy has now revealed that it will be lifting its ban on cruise ships this month. Both had been moored for some time and only staff were onboard, local media reported.
Costa is expecting to restart sailing shortly after August 15. The cruise line said: “The global health situation requires unprecedented actions to ensure health protection worldwide. “We
have decided to further suspend the activities of our ships until August 15, 2020 and to cancel cruises in Northern Europe. “We want to cruise again with you and we will do it as soon as the
emergency ends.” The cruise line is planning to have stop off in Greece which has also reopened its ports to cruise ships. However, only countries from an approved list of countries will be
allowed to disembark from the cruise ship. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) extended its no-sail order for cruise ships until October 1. They extended the ban on cruises
in July. The original order was issued on March 14. Cruise rules in the UK are still stringent with the Foreign Office (FCO) “advising against cruise ship travel at this time”. They
continued: “This is due to the ongoing pandemic and is based on medical advice from Public Health England.”
