OOCL to hike transatlantic rates in January    Ocean carrier OOCL said Wednesday it will continue a rate restoration program on the transatlantic trade into 2010.    The line said that

beginning Jan. 1, rates for cargo transiting ports in Canada, the U.S. East and Gulf coasts, and Mexico will be increased $320 per TEU and $400 per FEU. Rates for cargo moving through U.S.

West Coast ports will rise $480 per TEU and $600 per FEU.    'Ocean freight rates continue to be below the required level to cover basic operating costs or transportation costs,'

the line said in a statement. 'The current levels are unsustainable for the long term.'
