Judging underway at royal highland winter fair - farmers weekly

Judging has got underway in both sheep and cattle classes here at the Royal Highland Winter Fair, with some usual names taking red tickets in both sections. In the sheep classes the first class went to last years champion winner Malcolm Stewart, Brotherstone, Melrose, with his pair of Suffolk crosses, while second went to the Leggate family. Meanwhile, the second class went to Brian MacTaggart, Douganhill Farms, Castle Douglas, with his Texel sired duo. In among the cattle the first class in the native section for Aberdeen Angus sired steers went to George and Aileen McFadzean with their steer Fulton the Graiper, while second place was Alexander Grieve with his steer Retanach Power Scope. In the class for Galloway sired steers first went to Michael and Melanie Alford with their steer Super Ted. The Highland steer class went to Balmoral Estates with their entry Balmoral Ruadh, while second spot went to Patricia Smith and Paul Burns with their steer Second Chance. Across in the Continental section it was Welshman William Owen who took the first class for lightweight Charolais sired steers with his entry Crackerjack, second place here was G M Henderson with Bee’s Knee’s. The heavyweight class went to Bertie Paton with Bish-Bash-Boshm, with Neil Slack standing second with Funky Monkey. More results and pictures will follow as the action unfolds…….
