15 November 2001 Mitsui offers integrated crop service _BY FWI STAFF_ HIGH-value and specialist-crop growers are offered an integrated service to solve crop protection problems. It comprises
a range of agrochemical, biochemical, biological control and pheromone products. It will be operated by Certis, a company formed from the various crop protection businesses of Mitsui group
across Europe and the USA. Mitsui companies behind Certis include Hortichem, Agrisense and Biological Crop Protection in the UK, and Novartiss former Bt biological control agent business in
the USA. Certis says that, unlike competitors, it will pursue a solution-based approach to crop protection problems, rather than simply offering individual products. It was launched by
marketing manager Kevin Price at the British Crop Protection Council Weeds Conference in Brighton this week. “It is not like pulling a product off the shelf and just using it,” said Mr
Price. “This sector requires expertise and knowledge to develop integrated solutions that make products work well.” With 120 staff across Europe, the company aims to work with distributors
and growers direct to develop increasingly bespoke advice for higher value crops, including potatoes. Diamondback moth control in field-scale brassicas demonstrates the need for integrated
solutions, he said. “We can offer pheromone traps for monitoring populations, insect growth-regulating sprays like Dimylin to combat low populations, and insecticides to tackle populations
if they exceed treatment thresholds,” Mr Price noted. The Certis name will be adopted from January 2002, with a head office in Brussels. Annual turnover in Europe of its constituents is 24
million. FREE ARABLE UPDATE CLICK HERE to receive FWis FREE new weekly email newsletter, providing an instant link to all the major additions and updates relevant to your arable business.
