Emmanuel Latte Lath’s MLS struggles continued this weekend, as the former Middlesbrough man was linked with a return to the Championship. After attempts to convince the Ivorian to stay in
January fell on deaf ears, Boro negotiated a club-record £22.5 million sale of the striker to MLS side Atlanta United. He made a blistering start Stateside too, netting five goals in his
first six games, including a brace on his debut. However, things haven’t been going so well for Latte Lath or Atlanta since. After the weekend’s 2-0 defeat to New York, Latte Lath is now
goalless in his last ten appearances, with his side winning only two of their last 11 games. It leaves them third bottom of the Eastern Conference. Latte Lath has started to take some flak
from Atlanta supporters, and has now been linked with a Championship return this summer, with suggestions he is struggling to settle across the Atlantic. Weekend reports have suggested that
Ipswich Town could reignite their interest in the 26-year-old. Ipswich made attempts to sign Latte Lath last summer - with Boro turning down a £20m offer from the Tractor Boys on the final
day of the transfer window. Having suffered relegation back to the Championship last season, they are now looking for a new striker this summer with Liam Delap on the verge of a move to
Chelsea due to a relegation clause in his contract. While reports emerged over the weekend of Ipswich’s reignited interest in the former Boro striker, it remains to be seen how concrete that
is. With Ipswich well-known to need a striker, it’s an easy link to make, while Kieran McKenna’s side have also been credited with interest in young strikers Marc Guiu (Chelsea) and Divin
Mubama (Man City) - both of whom the East Anglia Daily Times claim they’ve officially enquired about. Either way, one thing for certain is that Boro wouldn’t be able to financially compete
with bringing Latte Lath back to Teesside. The striker more than tripled his wage when making the move to the MLS in February. Instead, Boro have identified an as yet unknown target who they
will be working to sign this summer as fresh competition for Tommy Conway next term.
