Heartstopper airs on Netflix and fans were both excited and sad to learn the story would only return for one final feature film. After three seasons of the fan-favourite series, the final instalment will conclude the story of Nick (played by Kit Conner), Charlie (Joe Locke) and their friends. The story will be based around the yet unreleased volume six of Alice Oseman’s graphic novels. While Wash Westmoreland joins as director, lead actors Kit and Joe are taking on new roles serving as executive producers. Production will commence this summer, with creator Alice saying: "I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story. I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion. "I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion." A synopsis reads: "Nick and Charlie are inseparable, but with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them. "Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Can first loves really last forever?" Fans have taken to Reddit to share their thoughts, with many calling it a bittersweet result for the show. They were pleased the series had not been cancelled, with Rex_1312 saying: "I’m just relieved that this is being properly ended and not just dropped like so many shows before it." However, aperson_72 feared there could be a rushed storyline, expressing: "I think this could be a really good thing since a movie kinda forces you not to meander around with so many storyline, which was my biggest issue with season 3-there was so much going on the main plot went too fast. "But also it could be the exact opposite, if Alice tries to fit all the unresolved plotlines (Sahar and Imogen/Tori being Ace, etc.) into the movie. I think she's gonna need to cut some of that if the movies gonna work tbh. "I know movies can fit all this on-But Alice is, to put it bluntly a pretty amateur screenwriter-she tends to overload things with plotlines, and I'm kind worried she'll do the same thing here in a medium where that really doesn't work." [Sic] Tel250 also expressed concern, adding: "Happy (ecstatic even) that there’s finally updates that will finally happen; sad that we will get to see much less screen time of HS content; scared/worried that this might get the Sense8 special treatment from Netflix." Baxsays echoed: "OMG I’m a bit gagged because obviously a film is much shorter than a season of TV and I felt like there was definitely another season’s worth of content. "Hoping this is a creative decision instead of something they have had to settle with for money/contract reasons that will end up seeming rushed." However, another fan said it was the perfect resolution, adding: "Honestly this is the right choice. One last big send off to such a beautiful show." HEARTSTOPPER AIRS ON NETFLIX
