A royal expert has suggested that Prince William is waging a more "subtle battle" to shield his family from the prying eyes of the media. While Prince Harry has been openly

combative regarding press intrusion, Richard Palmer, the i's royal correspondent, believes William is adopting a less confrontational stance. The Prince of Wales reportedly harbours

similar concerns to his brother about media involvement in his family's private life, but handles it differently. The royal expert notes that staff at Kensington Palace "have built

strong relationships with editors and specialist reporters, and often use softer negotiating skills, understandings or, if necessary, legal warnings to try to keep intrusive stories out of

the mainstream media." The expert began by saying: "His brother's war on the British media has hogged the headlines but behind the scenes Prince William is waging a more

subtle battle to protect his family from media intrusion." Despite his discreet fight for his family's privacy, the future King has not shied away from sharing personal stories.

During a trip to Cape Town, South Africa, last year, he shared an amusing tale about his daughter Charlotte's reaction to his beard, saying: "Charlotte didn't like it the

first time. I got floods of tears the first time I grew a beard, so I had to shave it off. And then I grew it back. I thought, hang on a second and I convinced her it was going to be

okay." However, the revelation of William's supposed 'subtle approach' to media engagement comes during a challenging period for his family. The past year has seen them

thrust into the limelight following cancer diagnoses for both King Charles and the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton. It's nearly a year since Kensington Palace released the shocking

news that King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer after undergoing a procedure for an enlarged prostate. Just over a month later, attention returned to the royals when Kate delivered a

sombre video message to the nation, announcing her own cancer diagnosis following scheduled abdominal surgery. However, after a troubling year, Kate announced that she is in remission, as

she said: "As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead,"
