Matthew Thompson, the former LBC and BBC Newsnight broadcaster, has taken to social media to announce his departure from Sky News after a tenure of 12 years in journalism. In a heartfelt
message to his 23,000 followers, Matthew shared that for family reasons, he will be embarking on a new chapter outside of London and the journalism field. His post read: "Some personal
news. In a couple of weeks, I am leaving Sky News. And indeed, leaving London, and journalism altogether. "It's not a decision I've taken lightly, but it's one
that's best for me and my family. I'll be moving to Edinburgh, and into the world of finance. "I won't subject you all to a self-indulgent run through of my career
highlights. But suffice to say it has been the privilege of my life to spend these last 12 years or so as a journalist. To work with some of the best in the business, and to talk to all of
you. "Thank you to all the people who made it possible, and to all the people who let me tell their stories along the way. I've always tried to make it about you, rather than
me", reports the Express. "I hope I managed that, and that I did the privilege justice. As for next steps... I can say more soon. "I hope this isn't goodbye. It may be
possible to keep some level of engagement on here in my new gig. For now, thank you. I've learned so much from reading and speaking with you all over the years. It's made me a
better journalist, and a better person. I'll miss it terribly." Matthew, known for his recent role as Sky News' Home and Political correspondent, was quickly flooded with
supportive messages. One person commented: "Good luck! We'll miss you." Another expressed: "Wishing you the very best of luck Matthew" and a third added: "Good
luck Matt! What an incredible 12 years!" It comes as Sky Sports presenter Emma Saunders has shared a health update after her thyroid cancer diagnosis. The star, 32, was left in a coma
after battling a severe brain infection last year – a complication from her cancer that led to her being hospitalised with encephalitis. Now, however, Emma has confessed she’s looking to
return to presenting work for the 2025/2026 season in August. Sharing the news on Instagram in March, Emma – who is in a relationship with ex RC Lens manager Will Still – said: “Hi folks,
unfortunately life took a bit of an unexpected turn a couple of weeks ago and I’m now off work while I recover from encephalitis - an infection of the brain. I hope it won’t be long until
I’m back to see out the end of 2024/25 – especially after missing part of the start of the season before this when I was treated for thyroid cancer. “So, as I spend time now recovering and
rebuilding again - I just wanted to thank my family & friends for their rock solid support, my colleagues at Sky for their patience allowing me the time to heal, and our wonderful NHS
for their extraordinary kindness and care.” She added: “And of course you @wrstill just for being you & being there for me.”
