A dietitian has shared the one ingredient she adds to her breakfast every day - and it's easy and cheap to make if you can't find it in your local store. Josie Porter, BSc MSc RD,

aka @thedietitianmethod, has said that she is strict on one rule — and that is that there are "no weird food rules". As a registered dietitian, she has undergone training at some

of London's top NHS trusts and is in private practice. Speaking about her first meal of the day, she said: "Now like any dietitian, I am a big advocate for porridge and that's

because it's packed with fibre and nutrients such as magnesium and zinc." Hailing it for its versatility, she said people could add whatever toppings they wanted, but there's

one she suggested everyone tried at least once — and it won't cost you a fortune. She suggested: "It's also super versatile. You can top it with really anything that you

want. "But what's on my rotation at the moment is this mixed berry puree. It's great because it uses the cheapest bag of mixed berries that you can find in any good

supermarket. "But it's also packed with lots of different polyphenols which are great for your gut and your overall health too, not to mention vitamin C which is something that the

oats lacks otherwise. For a good dose of healthy fats, I always pair with chopped nuts and peanut butter." The dietitian noted its high polyphenols content. This is a type of

micronutrient found in plant foods like fruits, vegetables, wholegrains red wine, dark chocolate, tea, spices and herbs - to name a few. It's key to add these type of items to your

diet, according to Holland & Barrett, as "they are potent antioxidants, which are important for health as they can help reduce the oxidative damage caused by harmful free radicals

in the body". It added: "There are over 8000 different types of them, each with their own linked health benefits and uses."
