Fat free Greek yoghurt has never been so popular with gym bunnies and dieters regularly putting the versatile ingredient in their shopping trolley for a high protein dish. Containing around

10g of protein per 100g, the simple ingredient is low in calories and perfect in breakfasts and desserts. It is also an excellent substitute for high calorie mayonnaise in a number of dishes

such as potato salad and can be used as a marinade for meat and veggies too. I regularly buy it and use it in baked oats, swirl it into warm berries and enjoy it as it is, simply with honey

and granola for a quick protein hit when I haven't got time to cook. As many of us attempt to find ways to keep our grocery bills down, I carried out a supermarket comparison test to

find out which brand of low fat Greek yoghurt was the best value for money. Not to be confused with Greek-style or natural yoghurt which are much cheaper but contain far less protein, I

bought seven pots of the real stuff. I headed to Tesco, Aldi, M&S, Lidl, Waitrose and Sainsbury's to pick up a tub from each shop. I reviewed them in terms of taste, texture, price

and nutrition, and compared them to the popular dairy brand Fage. Costing a whopping £3.50 for a 450g tub, Fage is by far the most expensive out of all the brands. I have listed in my

opinion the worst to best fat free Greek yoghurts. 7. LAST PLACE: TESCO Tesco Finest 0% Fat Greek Yogurt contained a good amount of protein (9.8g), however, the texture was rather loose so I

wasn't a huge fan of it. Price: £2.30 Weight: 500g Calories per 100g: 65kcal Protein content per 100g: 9.8g 6. FAGE FAGE Total 0% Natural Fat Free Greek Recipe Strained Yogurt was

incredibly thick, and tasted really good quality, but at £3.50 a tub, I couldn't justify it when other brands were much cheaper for a similar amount of protein. Containing 450g, the tub

looked the same size as the others but had less yoghurt inside, and I immediately noticed this when I pulled off the film lid. Price: £3.50 (bought from Sainsbury's) Weight: 450g

Calories per 100g: 54kcal Protein content per 100g: 10.3g 5. LIDL Milbona Fat Free Greek Yoghurt was among the cheapest I tried at less than £2 a pop, but it was quite runny. If you're

using it in baked or overnight oats, it's a great option, but if you're having it on it's own with berries, not so much. For calorie counters, it contained the least amount of

calories of all the brands I tried. Price: £1.89 Weight: 500g Calories per 100g: 55kcal Protein content per 100g: 9g 4. SAINSBURY'S Sainsbury's Authentic Fat Free Greek Yogurt,

Taste the Difference contained just shy of 10g of protein per 100g and it was super smooth. It was a good allrounder. Price: £2.30 Weight: 500g Calories per 100g: 65kcal Protein content per

100g: 9.9g 3. MARKS AND SPENCER I struggled to get the lid off the tub of M&S Authentic Greek Yogurt 0% Fat, but once I did, it was relatively thick. It tasted plain so a drizzle of

honey would be great in it. Price: £2.30 Weight: 500g Calories per 100g: 62kcal Protein content per 100g: 10g 2. WAITROSE I was very impressed with the No. 1 Fat Free Strained Natural Greek

Yogurt by Waitrose. It was super thick, wonderfully rich and tasted the best out of all the brands I tried. The only reason it didn't come in first place was because my favourite had a

smidge more protein, less calories and was cheaper. Price: £2.30 Weight: 500g Calories per 100g: 62kcal Protein content per 100g: 10g 1. BEST: ALDI You really can't beat Brooklea 0% Fat

Authentic Greek Yogurt from Aldi. Not only did it contain the most amount of protein - 10.4g (0.1g more than Fage), but it was excellent value at £1.89 for a 500g tub - the cheapest

alongside Lidl. It tasted nice and contained just 57 calories per 100g. I would highly recommend Aldi's fat free Greek yoghurt. Price: £1.89 Weight: 500g Calories per 100g: 57kcal

Protein content per 100g: 10.4g
