A hidden Surrey garden, just a stone’s throw away from Godalming, has been named as one of the best spots to visit in the UK. The Guardian named Vann, a five acre garden sitting next to an
historic family home, as one of the top 20 gardens in the country. It is reportedly so gorgeous it was used to film Disney’s Christopher Robin and the BBC ’s Howards End. Now, this unique
beauty spot is only open at certain points throughout the year. The Caroe family have lived at Vann for more than 112 years, overseeing the upkeep of several magnificent gardens. The most
famous of these is the Jekyll Water Garden, where four pools slope into a woodland valley. Visitors can criss-cross the stream on paths of Bargate stone and a number of bridges as they make
their way through the space. Depending on the time of year, the garden is blanketed in an array of colour. In spring, the valley is coated in bright yellow daffodils while later in the year
azaleas and red Japanese maples make their appearance. The Yew Walk is equally stunning. Despite being in an entirely different part of the garden it is also historic, having been planted in
1909. It's a good spot for a rest or quick photo as a stone seat framed by wisteria is at the head of the walk. It used to be a rose garden, but there have reportedly been incidents
with deers. As a result, flower beds have had to be replanted, and some room has been left out so that experimenting with more modern plants could take place. The house itself is steeped
with history. Through the 15th and 17th centuries, it was used by the Mayors of Guildford, but its ownership can be traced all the way back to 1180. Both the house and garden are registered
2* by English Heritage. The garden is open on selected days throughout the spring and early summer with an open air theatre running in July. Tickets are £10 on all days and can only be
purchased with cash, on-site, and the garden is open from 10am to 4pm. There is also lots of free parking in a field to the south of the house. This year the open air theatre will be showing
The Odyssey. There will be two performances only on July 5 at 1pm and 6pm. Come rain or shine, the show will go on, and whatever happens visitors will be able to enjoy some acting in a
beautiful Arts and Crafts setting. Early bird tickets are available now with children at £22pp and adults £24pp. IMPORTANT DETAILS Address: Vann, Vann Lane, Hambledon, Near Godalming, GU8
