News story TURKMENISTAN-UK TRADE & INDUSTRY COUNCIL MEETING IN LONDON The Council is one of the main vehicles for deepening the trade relationship between Turkmenistan & the United
Kingdom. This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government The 4th meeting of the Turkmenistan-UK Trade & Industry Council (TUKTIC) took
place in London on 24 November and successfully concluded its work in Cambridge on 25 November. The Council is one of the main vehicles for deepening the trade relationship between
Turkmenistan & the United Kingdom. The delegation from Turkmenistan was led by Minister of Education, Mrs Gulshat Mammedova, and included the Deputy Chairman of the State Agency for
Management & Use of Hydrocarbon Resources, the Deputy Minister of Economy & Development, the Director of the National Institute of Education and several other senior government
officials. During the first day of the meeting, the delegation from Turkmenistan had bilateral meetings with Mr Tobias Ellwood MP (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign &
Commonwealth Office), Lord Livingston (UK Minister of State for Trade & Investment); and Professor Charles Hendry, the British Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy for Turkmenistan. Opening the
4th meeting of the Council, UK Co-chair Ambassador Ronald Nash stressed the importance of the Council and expressed his gratitude to the Turkmen delegation for their active participation
during the two-day event. In his turn, the British Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Mr Sanjay Wadvani, said he was confident the event “would lead to the further positive development of the trade
relationship between Turkmenistan and the UK”. He also highlighted how experience gained by UK companies during the London 2012 Olympics could be used to the advantage of an excellent Asian
Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat in 2017. The event also included a presentation by Lord Sebastian Coe CH KBE – the Olympic gold medallist and Chairman of the London 2012
Olympics Organising Committee – who left a lasting impression on the delegation and once again proved the readiness of UK expertise to contribute to the successful preparation and running of
the 2017 AIMAG in Ashgabat. On the following day the delegation made a visit to Cambridge, home to one of the oldest and most distinguished universities in the world, where they received
presentations from Cambridge English Language Assessment, Cambridge University Press and others on the excellent opportunities for future cooperation in the sphere of education and science.
