Massive 85.7 percent voter turnout was recorded in 2 blocks of Ramban district in third phase of Panchayat polls on Saturday, district panchyat election officer (DPEO) Ramban Showkat Aijaz
Bhat said. “Polling was held for 13 panchayats and 95 wards falling under Gundi and Dharam blocks of Ramban district. While Gundi block witnessed 85.8% polling, the Dharam block witnessed
85.6% polling. The overall voter turnout of the district was 85.7%,” said DPEO Ramban. The DPEO said that adequate deployment of forces was made in areas designated as sensitive and
hypersensitive. He said that 49 candidates were in fray for 13 Sarpanch constituencies and 180 candidates for 95 Panch wards. It is important to mention here that 11 candidates have won the
Panch seats unopposed in Gool block and 10 candidates in Gundi-Dharam blocks. In Gool block, 1085 out of 12,633 electors exercised their voting right to elect the Panchs and Sarpanchs
while in Gundi-Dharam blocks, 3986 out of 4643 voters exercised their right to vote. “Polling remained peaceful and incident free on Saturday,” the DPEO Ramban said.
