Napoli playmaker Piotr Zielinski would have no problems making the step up to a club like Real Madrid or Premier League giants Liverpool, Italian agent Gianluca di Carlo tells
Tuttomercatoweb.
Those of you with long memories may recall that we’ve already seen the Poland international in Liverpool colours.
The Merseysiders came within touching distance of signing a fresh-faced Zielinski from Empoli to the tune of £11.5 million during Jurgen Klopp’s first summer in charge at Anfield. The
then-22-year-old was even pictured posing for phots with the Liverpool kit.
That was before Napoli snatched Zielinski from under Klopp’s nose, completing a £13 million deal.
But, after six years in Naples, how do we assess a now-28-year-old Zielinski? A good player rather than a great one? Or an underrated, under-appreciated talent who would soar in alongside
more talented players elsewhere?
Zielinski has, in the recent past, been dubbed ‘ideal for Manchester City’ after all. A footballer who could become ‘better than Kevin de Bruyne’ if he adds a more ruthless streak to his
game.
“I have known him since he was 16,” says Di Carlo, an agent who has a track record when it comes to spotting some of Poland’s most exciting young talent.
“He is a great player. In my opinion, he could go and play for (the big) teams tomorrow, like Liverpool or Real Madrid.
“In short, Napoli is right to keep him. Therefore, I don’t think – unless there are offers from great clubs – that he will leave.”
The £45 million-rated Zielinski had been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this summer. He quickly brought an early end to those claims, however, committing his future to
Napoli.
“I don’t understand where these rumours come from,” Zielinski tells Sky Italia.
“I don’t think my adventure at Napoli will end this summer. I’ve got an important contract that will last another two years. I feel good in Naples. The desire to leave the club never came
out of my mouth.
“I want to continue with Napoli because they are a great team.”
