Nearly 100,000 fake Cabbage Patch dolls treated with a flammable insecticide were among $1.5 million in counterfeit toys seized by the U.S. Customs Service, capping a four-month
investigation. The phony toys were found in rental storage lockers in Hayward, Fremont and San Jose, as well as on docks in Oakland and San Francisco, agents said. Officials said the seizure
may be the biggest of its kind in the country. Rollin B. Klink, a San Francisco customs agent, said the toys were brought into this country by W & L Co., a San Jose-based import firm.
No criminals charges have been filed against the firm’s owner, Willy Lee, and Klink would not comment on whether Lee knew the toys were fakes. MORE TO READ
